Chorus Kicks Off the New Season with Purpose
There’s something special about the first rehearsal of a new season. The air is filled with anticipation—new music being distributed, familiar faces returning, and new people eager to join the circle. It’s also an opportunity to set the tone for the season. At our opening Chorus rehearsal in Boston, Conductor Sarah Mitchell invited the group into a thoughtful conversation about expectations.
Sarah asked:
- How do you want to feel as part of this chorus?
- What values should guide us as a community of singers?
Everyone engaged in a discussion about what they hope to experience. Together, the chorus created this shared vision for the season:
We strive to…
- Create a place of joy, hopefulness, patience, and acceptance
- Bring hope to others
- Trust the process
- Assume positive intent
- Provide a safe space to process emotions through music
- Support one another
Sarah has shared that the inspiration for this exercise came from a session with her therapist. So many positive ideas come from therapy!
The Me2 Chorus is about more than singing notes on a page. It’s about creating a Stigma-Free Zone where everyone is welcome, supported, and valued. If we can carry these intentions beyond rehearsal rooms and into our daily lives, imagine the ripple effect we could create.
Here’s to a season of music, growth, and community!
